Applies To: Model 500
Note: If users report getting an error when clicking the Welcome Message link just after ePrism installation, please see:
Blacklisting is when users reject email from specified domains or email addresses. Whitelisting explicitly allows incoming email from specific domains or email addresses. Users login to the ePrism 500 to maintain these lists. The URL is typically
http://ePrism-hostname or
http://ePrism-IP-address
Users should bookmark this location for easy access. HTTPS is also supported, simply requiring that end-users accept the securing certificate.
If integrating with a domain-controller (NTLM) see the next section for an understanding of how the welcome messages assists in using Blacklists/Whitelists effectively.
First, ePrism welcome messages only occur when ePrism is integrated with NTLM authentication. If user accounts are created directly on ePrism, the welcome message does not occur.
Assuming NTLM integration, The 1st incoming internet email to a specific internal email address, that is not rejected because of spam level or being virul, triggers ePrism to send a welcome message (see below) to that specific internal email address. The message contains the internal email address (see red below) and a link to a user login page (see blue below) on the ePrism 500.

The primary purpose of the welcome message is to map one or more email addresses to a Windows account (kept on the domain-controller) for user-specific blacklisting and whitelisting (this only needs to be done once for each email address the user "owns"). If a user has multiple email addresses, they will (with time) get multiple welcome messages. Each welcome message has the users email address in it (see above). When the user clicks the welcome message link, the email address is affiliated with the Windows account of the person logged in. In the end, ePrism knows exactly what email addresses are affiliated with specific users, and is able to apply blacklist/whitelist filters appropriately. In addition to the username mapping, this link also gives users their first opportunity to edit their blacklist/whitelist.
The user can verify their mapped addresses when they log in (see below). Note that if a user has several email addresses or aliases, each 1st incoming internet email to each address or alias will trigger another welcome message. A one-time login will let ePrism perform the username/email-address mapping quickly and easily. User blacklists/whitelists will apply to all mapped addresses or aliases.
The user below has a primary email address and an alias, the Blacklists/Whitelists link allows the user to initially configure these lists if they wish. Later, they will login to ePrism using the default login page to see email filtering stats and to update their blacklist/whitelist filtering. The URL needed by users is typically "http://eprismHOSTname" or "http://eprismIPaddress".
