Applies To: Model 500
The email server is identified by IP-address during the initial setup of ePrism.
The ePrism 500 doesn't filter internal company email (by design), it filters incoming Internet email, and optionally, outbound Internet email.
Inbound Internet email filtering does not actually begin until incoming email is re-directed to the ePrism 500, which occurs with a change to the target IP address of your DNS Server "MX Record", where MX means "Mail Exchange". This change is typically done by the DNS or Network administrator. Inbound email filtering provides the following benefits:
Virus checking on all inbound internet email (Kaspersky)
User Blacklist/Whitelist email filtering
SPAM processing
Here is a more complete description of ePrism 500 Anti-Spam & Anti-Virus features
Outbound Internet email filtering only occurs if the ePrism admin enables it by configuring the eMail Server (with an SMTP Connector) to send outbound Internet email to the ePrism 500. Outbound email filtering provides the following benefits:
Virus checking on all outbound email (Kaspersky)
Text footer, ie., "boilerplate" at the bottom of all outbound email (enabled by ePrism admin)
Auto-Whitelisting (used automatically if outbound email processing in place)
