ePrism 500 System Configuration Dialogue

Applies To: Model 500

This article is meant to be seen within the context of ePrism 500 initial setup, please start here.

Once the IP address and subnet mask are set, Appliance Manager will automatically continue the initial configuration dialogue, prompting you to login. Yellow is used to highlight entries or buttons of interest in the screen shots below.

Enter "eprism" & "setup" to initially login (you'll change the password during the dialogue).

Note: ePrism 5.1 introduces an ePrism SPAM Policy screen (9 of 9) that allows configuration choices for SPAM-Tagged email (Click to Jump Down)

License agreement ...

Start a new configuration ... there is a "restore" option also, ignore it.

Upload your license information (this file typically delivered by email) ...

Select the license file (your filename will vary) ...

Are the options and expiration what you expected?

Enter contact information ... contact email should be a valid email address for the ePrism administrator.

Contact Name (above) displays in the "Welcome" message (below). "America" refers to both North & South American locales (cities) for different time zones. You can optionally specify an NTP server at this point by clicking "Use NTP" and entering an IP address, or you can configure an NTP connection later.

Set a new ePrism password. You can change your password later using Appliance Manager.

If you forget your password, you'll need to make a hyperterminal connection to the ePrism and change your password from the menu.

IP and Netmask will already be set, just specify the "Default Route" (aka Gateway) to the internet...

The DNS admin will need to add the "ePrism Hostname" to the DNS server before the "vitals" check will pass for hostname.

Specify the DNS nameserver that you intend ePrism to use for name resolution.  ePrism 5.1 now supports entry of multiple DNS server addresses (comma delimited).

This identifies valid internal ePrism clients internally (whose inbound mail will be filtered by ePrism), and also helps ePrism identify internal vs. external mail.

Specify the domain you intend to filter, and the address of the mail server ePrism will filter email for.

Begin ePrism 5.1 Only (this screen introduced in 5.1, Begin/End headers simply delineate added material)

This screen allows the Administrator to determine if users will see tagged SPAM, or not.

The default of Tag and Pass means users will receive email tagged as shown below (note that subject tag can be changed now or later).  Users can then decide if the email is SPAM or not.  Users can setup folder routing based on the subject tag below.

Light Filtering and Heavy Filtering prevent tagged email from being delivered to users at all. Instead, the SPAM is rejected outright. This can be beneficial in environments where users require a high level of protection from potentially inappropriate emails, and represents a conservative strategy. Light filtering rejects higher SPAM scores, where we obviously have SPAM.  Heavy rejects lower SPAM scores, where email may or may not actually be SPAM, and is the "safest" filtering to use.

End ePrism 5.1 Only (this screen introduced in 5.1)

You get to review what you entered before committing it.

"Back" lets you change prior items without losing data for items that don't need changing. The yellow is the data you entered.

When you save, it'll take a few moments to update ePrism, and a self-check will run automatically, letting you know if you have connectivity issues.
